Senator Hiram L. Fong
First Asian American elected to the U.S. Senate
Genealogy
July 24 1986
Family was very important to Senator Hiram L. Fong. The Taoist tradition of honoring ancestors was inbred at an early age with family shrines to departed members and graveyard ceremonies to honor the dead. At the age of 80 Sen. Fong began to research his father's family genealogy through relatives still in China. He produced the following document for his children and grandchildren, as well as for posterity.
